Capparis
spinosa is a useful medicinal plant. It grows on mountains
and hilly areas of Gilgit baltistan. Botanical name is Capparis spinosa. Bikh kabar, kabar is Urdu name, in local
language of Shina it is known as kavir and in Broshaski it is named as chopor. The
plant blooms in June to august and the local ladies pick the buds, flowers and
fruits of this important medicinal plant in these months for domestic use as
well as for earning purpose. The medicinal uses othe plnats are as following:
- The common domestic use is the extract after dipping the plant material in water for many days.
- The extract water is conserve in bottles and use for treatment of jaundice and hepatitis.
- It is also use early morning for refreshing the body and remove tiredness and use against stomach and gastrointestinal problems.
- The fruit pickle is very famous because of its unique taste and medicinal values.
- The sun dried flowers and buds are conserved and mixed with other vegetables and cook according to need as a very special dish of delicious and medicinal vegetable.
- Use as a remedy of liver problems and fatty liver.
- Consider as anti diabetic and maintains metabolic rates especially helpful in digestion of fatty foods.
